Advice about Payments and Contracts for Church Organists

Please note that competition law forbids organisations to recommend rates for self-employed organists. However, the ISM offers a survey of organists' fees at http://www.ism.org/advice/organist-fees

This web page also has a link for further advice for ISM members

The RSCM has advice about payment and contracts at www.rscm.com with specific figures only available to those who can log in.

Both organisations also outline some of the key issues that you may encounter as a professional organist, including advice on tax and employment status, contractual matters and relations with church personnel.

The RCO also offers useful advice available to members, including the ISM forms of agreement for employed and self-employed organists.

Music for Weddings

A good deal of work is involved in preparing for as well as playing at a wedding  to ensure a  smooth-running and inspiring occasion for the couple who are the focus of the service – and to understand their wishes. The RSCM has a very useful page on its website with lots of advice and tips for those who have played for no weddings - or many!

Advice about fees is given on the link under Advice about Payments above.
